Cid's Cambodia Build

Okay, time to catch up on the blog. We are up to day 3, time to tackle building a water tank :) We started out greeted by our site mascot - Chan Mi - what a great dog! The good news is that the dog was also well taken care of and loved by the kids.

Our family lived in a VERY small hut, but they had VERY big hearts. Here is teh team before the start of the project:

Along with the site mascot, we had a pet pig on the grounds. Team also learned what it means to slop a hog....NOT slap! :) For some reason I was also craving a BLT for lunch! hmmmmm :)

We continued working on the base of the water tank - LOTS of mixing cement by hand. Christine became the cement master and quickly taught the rest of us :)

Our home owner then started us on the foundation. Commence the brick laying! :)

Mom - our site leader and interpreter - was big on the fruit breaks. He did have awesome fruit to eat though! They also gave us coconuts to drink:

The grand daughters were shy the first day, but quickly warmed up. It was so cute listening to the youngest read aloud in the "house".

By the 2nd day the girls drew pictures for us and we a lot more comfortable around us. I loved seeing how excited they were to go to school!

We were content to admire our work, until we realized it was time to make the rebar by hand. How many Habitat volunteers does it take to tie rebar together??? We'll never know because we didn't really learn that well :)

We (the skilled worker and home owner) got the rebar done and we were impressed with "our" work:

Mom decided maybe it was best if we took a field trip - literally - into the rice fields near by. He showed us the various crops being grown and we saw the farmers tending to their crops. All I can say is WOW that's a lot of work!
